NDIS is the short form of the ‘National Disability Insurance Scheme’ that is managed by NDIA (The National Disability Insurance Agency). NDIS offers financial support to qualified individuals (participants) depending on their particular requirements. Every NDIS participant has a personal plan that details their objectives and the funds they have received.
People who live in Australia as a citizen or permanent resident, aged between 7 and 65, who were born with or develop a permanent and major disability, are eligible to be supported by an NDIS Provider Melbourne.
A ‘permanent disability’ is an impairment that is expected to last a lifetime, and a ‘major disability’ is one that has a considerable influence on a person’s capacity to carry out daily tasks. To be eligible to receive NDIS funding, a person’s disability should have caused impairments that have substantial impact on their everyday functioning.
NDIS covers eligible individuals with physical, cognitive, intellectual, sensory, and psychosocial disabilities. For eligible children with developmental delays, early intervention assistance can be offered.
NDIS funding could be categorised in one of the three groups of: Core, Capacity Building, and Capital. The fund could be allocated for transport, daily activities, social and community activities and many more support and services.
There are different financial management choices accessible to NDIS participants. Plan management is one of these choices and is when a participant decides to hire a plan management provider to get help in managing their NDIS plan finances (plan-managed). NDIS and Centrelink can work together but they are separate systems. NDIS payments are not considered as income by the Australian Taxation Office or Centrelink. However, if you are being funded for certain support through NDIS, you will not be eligible for that by Centrelink. For instance, if you receive funding by NDIS for transportation support, you will not get a Mobility Allowance from Centrelink.
