We would always love to hear from you. There are different ways to reach out to us.
When you are an NDIS participant, it is the responsibility of the NDIS as an entity to make sure that you’re able to live independently, and that you can enjoy the same things that able-bodied and able-minded people can enjoy in life. An essential part of being able to do this is the capacity that most of us have for self care — but, as you may have already found, self-care is not easy for everyone.
If you qualify for NDIS funding, you may require NDIS nursing services in order to live fully and independently, and we are here to help you achieve that goal. At VSS, we assist participants with their daily personal tasks, even in a group or shared living situation. But, how do these services work, how do you determine if you qualify for these services? On this page, we will explore some of the intracacies around personal support services and how they work (as defined by the NDIS), starting at the beginning:
Valuing yourself, caring for yourself, and prioritising your happiness send a message to your brain that creates your self-worth. Self-care is critical to our emotional, physical, and mental well-being
The NDIS provides what it calls “reasonable and necessary” supports to those living with physical, psychosocial, sensory, cognitive and/or intellectual disabilities, as well as “early intervention supports” for some cases in which a child suffers from developmental delay. Basically, if you find yourself unable to reliably perform what is deemed as important self-care tasks (such as personal hygiene and toileting, showering, dressing, and grooming) you may require NDIS nursing services.
To go further, nursing services generally fall under what an NDIS budget refers to as “assistance with daily life,” which can include further self-care services such as cooking, cleaning and gardening. These supports are there so that a participant with a proven lack of ability to perform these tasks can recieve support while they develop their life skills and move towards their long-term goals, as specified in their NDIS plan.
Unfortunately, you are not going to find out how many of these supports you should be eligible for by reading a web page — the quickest way to find out what supports you are entitled to recieve as an NDIS participant is to schedule an obligation-free consultation with registered NDIS providers like ourselves. Our experts can tell you what you are and are not entitled to recieve NDIS funding for, what you should reasonably expect from your NDIS journey, and more (as long as you can provide us with specific details about your disability and/or your recent NDIS qualification, if applicable).
Supports offered in any given NDIS budget fall into 3 categories: capital support funding, capacity building funding, and core support funding. Under core supports there are 4 categories of services: assistance with social and community participation, transport, consumables, and assistance with daily life.
As explained earlier, this support category can cover personal hygiene and toileting, showering, dressing, grooming, cooking, cleaning and gardening. The breadth and scope of this support category (ie which of these individual personal support services are available to you) depends on your individual use case, and will be initially determined by the NDIA upon review of your application; further determined by whoever is managing your plan (either yourself, the NDIA or a registered NDIS plan manager); even further determined by your registered NDIS support coordinator; and even further determined by your initial in-home meeting with your support worker(s) themselves.
As you can imagine, there are many steps in place in order to prevent abuse of the NDIS — but if you genuinely require assistance with your daily life, you can rest assured that you will get what you need.
